Collection: Facing Extinction, Oahu

“Facing Extinction, Oahu” is a collection showing Shane Armour’s focus on the disappearing native life of Oahu. Inspired by years of studying endemic species, his paintings capture the colors of the native ecosystems of Oahu with a palette that resonates with the bright blues of the oceans and deep greens of the jungles. Amidst these vibrant paintings, shapes of threatened native life emerge. Each piece uses contrasting colors to embed shapes of the native life that once thrived in the local ecosystems, and is now threatened due to human activity and habitat loss. Each painting invokes questions of the evolving relationship between humanity and nature. “Facing Extinction" invites viewers to think about their role in shaping the future of the evolving landscapes of Oahu while also remembering the endemic life that once thrived.
